Algebra 3 and Trigonometry

Topics include absolute value equations and inequalities; solving systems of linear equations using determinants; review of rational exponents, radical expressions and complex numbers; quadratic equations and inequalities; solving equations reducible to quadratic form; quadratic, exponential and logarithmic functions and applications; graphs of functions; algebra of functions; inverse functions; conic sections; nonlinear systems of equations and inequalities; right triangle trigonometry; trigonometric functions and the unit circle. Not open to students with credit in 垫 140 or higher. Prerequisite: 垫 102 with a grade of ‘C’ or higher or by placement.

Course Learning Outcomes:

1. Display a set of real numbers in set-builder notation, interval notation, or by graphing the set on a real number line
2. Solve absolute value linear equations or inequalities
3. Solve a system of linear equations by the addition method or by using determinants
4. Combine two or more radical expressions (add, 减去, multiply or divide), reporting the final answer in simplest form
5. Combine two or more complex numbers (add, 减去, multiply or divide), reporting the final answer in the form of a + bi
6. Identify expressions as quadratic equations
7. Solve a complex quadratic equation by factoring, taking square roots, completing the square, or using the quadratic formula
8. Solve a quadratic or rational inequality
9. Graph functions using translations or reflections
10. Combine two functions (add, 减去, multiply or divide)
11. Find the composition of two functions
12. Find the inverse of a 1-1 function
13. Write an exponential expression in logarithmic form, or vice versa
14. Graph an exponential or logarithmic function
15. Solve an exponential or logarithmic function
16. Identify parabolas, circles, ellipses and hyperbolas
17. Graph parabolas, circles, ellipses and hyperbolas
18. Solve a system of nonlinear equations or inequalities by substitution, addition, or graphing
19. Convert an angle in degrees to radian measure, or vice versa
20. Evaluate any of the six trigonometric functions for a corresponding angle when given two sides of a right triangle or a point in the coordinate system
21. Graph the equation y-sinx or y=cosx
